Types of badminton grip
Some might think that grips are not that important but it is. It will affect the whole game if you are using the wrong grip. To get better in badminton you need to understand when to use the grips. The 2 main types of badminton grips are:
#1. The forehand grip- this grip that can reduce the strain on the arm and wrist. It is used to hit shots at the side of your dominant hand and for the shots around the head.
#2. The backhand grip – the grip that is given power by the thumb. It is used to hit shots at the opposite side of your dominant hand.
If you use the wrong grip or hold the grip too tight it will be more difficult to control the direction of the shuttlecock.
Badminton serve types
Service is the starting point of the game. If you fail this you will lose a point to your opponent. It is already like your gaming them points. So it is important to improve your service. In order to become better, you need to understand the grips used to serve. This is a guide to the 4 main types of service.
#1. Low serve: this service is like a soft tap that aims to make the shuttle go over the net and failing in the front line of the service court. If it is too high your opponent would be able to do a smash.

Badminton strokes types
Strokes are just as important as service and should be practiced just as often to become better at badminton. Like service, there are also 4 types of badminton strokes such as:
#1. Overhand forehand stroke – overhand forehand stroke is used when the shuttle is going towards the side of your dominant hand, near the head and above the waist.
#2. Overhand backhand – used when the shuttle is at the opposite side of your dominant hand and above the waist.
#3. Underhand forehand – this is used when the shuttle is in the side of your dominant hand but under your waist.
#4. Underhand backhand – also used when the shuttle is at the opposite side of your dominant hand but when it is under your waist.
Badminton Ready position type
The badminton ready position helps you get ready for your next shot. You should be in the ready position before the opponent hits the shuttlecock. These are the aspects to be considered while in the ready position:
#1. Stance – your stance should be wide, knees slightly bent. Your weight should also be shifted a little towards the front on your tiptoes.
#2. Racket – your racket should be away from your body and in front of you. Hold your racket lower when you are defensive and higher when offensive.
#3. Non- dominant hand – your non-dominant hand should be able to balance your body and your racket.
Other considerations to improve badminton skills
Footwork
If the shuttle is served to in front of you shift your weight forward and when served behind you shift your weight backward. While doing this you should maintain your balance. You should also improve your agility in order to get to the predicted landing spot of the shuttle quicker. You can do these by doing agility exercises such as two jumps forward one backward, high knees and many more.
Wrist
The wrist plays a very important role in the sport badminton. It is the one that provides power to your shots. You should maximize the movement of your wrist in order to get full power. To strengthen your wrist you can do wrist strengthening exercises such as wrist circles, stretches, etc.
